So, THIS happened yesterday....
I happen to be a huge fan of Criminal Minds. I usually watch it religiously every week. Yesterday, I didn't. Why does this matter? Well, yesterday (1/23/2013) was kind of a huge deal for me. You see, "Program 13" was quoted on Criminal Minds! No, I'm not kidding.
My nephew's mother called me screaming when the episode ended, trying to tell me that they quoted me. I didn't believe her. Then I googled it, and well, she wasn't lying. Needless to say there was a ton of WTF on my end - I was confused as I didn't even think that many people knew about my book, let alone a network like CBS.
Book sales went up.
Blog stats pretty much tripled (I went from 100 unique hits yesterday to well over 300).
And I sat there in complete shock.
This is awesome.
I self-published "Program 13" shortly after an agent told me that it wasn't marketable. I wasn't expecting to find a huge audience. Hell, I wasn't expecting to land a single reader. Then something like this happens and I just don't know how to react.
I love you guys. Every single one of you.
If you missed it, you can watch it on CBS' website now by going here.

ETA: For those who may think that CBS quoted me wrong, they didn't. The quote that appears on the show is from the first edition of "Program 13". The only difference between that version and the version that exists in the current edition of "Program 13" is that isn't was replaced with wasn't (as "Program 13" is written in past tense).

Oh my goodness, this is the coolest thing ever!! I am so happy for you!!!! I am not a huge Criminal Minds fan but I must watch this episode.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
Thank you! You don't even have to watch it, haha. Spencer Reid says the quote at the very end of the episode. ;)
DeleteThanks again!
I just saw the episode on Criminal Minds, loved the quote. Googled it and found out who made it. I'm wanting to get the book "Program 13" to read now. I haven't picked up a book to read in over 5 years. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kyle!
DeleteI love quotes and Criminal Minds. I googled the quote after watching the show today. I'm going to give Program 13 a read!! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Valerie!
DeleteThis quote is incredibly poignant in my life and those of my family right now. It really defines things for me. Thanks for helping to bring it all together.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words, aaronb.
DeleteYoure a good writer. After that episode I googled you out and saw your two books Program 12 and Program 13. I immediately purchased Program 13 via Amazon (kindle Edition) at 2.99..and it was a good read... unfortunately I have to download a free ebook of Program 12 because it's not available in Amazon.... waiting for the next installation of the Emile Reed Chronicles....
ReplyDeleteKeep it up Ms Sobon....
Thank you, jmark. The next installment will be released in May (I don't have an exact date yet).
DeleteI heard your quote on Criminal Minds (also my favorite show) and looked up more of your quotes and your books. You are full of wisdom and your writings have touched me. I'll be reading Program 13 too! Congratulations and I wish you all the best!!

ReplyDeleteCongrats! I especially enjoy the quotes on Criminal Minds, currently my fave TV show.Yes, this is why I googled you. Starting over is an epic subject for me, since PTSD caused when I was a teenager has been a life-long catalyst for starting over. As an artist-musician (vs working 9-5) it has been easier to manage. I look forward to reading your work.
